Michael O’Malley and his wife Esther insisted that their two children, Sarah and Robert, keep diaries. In Michael’s words: “Write now, remember later.” Sarah became a noted fiction writer, and rather than writing a memoir about her family, she asked if she could use her family member’s diaries - their own words - to present her family’s story as a play.
